Qualified Crypto Appraisers Offers Cryptocurrency Appraisal for Charitable Donations, Estate Tax, Divorce, and More

The IRS treats cryptocurrency as property, so a gift, a bequest, or a property settlement needs a documented fair market value, not a screenshot of an exchange price. Qualified Crypto Appraisers prepares that value as of the exact date your filing or agreement requires, with the markets, pricing sources, and method disclosed in the report.

Every report is prepared in accordance with USPAP and written for its intended use, whether that is Section B of a Form 8283, a Form 706 estate return, or a marital balance sheet in a divorce.

Charitable Donation

Qualified appraisals for crypto gifts above $5,000, reported in Section B of Form 8283.

Estate Tax

Date-of-death fair market value for Form 706 returns and the heirs' basis records.

Gift Tax

Fair market value on the date of the gift, for crypto reported on Form 709.

Divorce

Values as of the date your state or settlement uses for dividing marital property.

Probate and Estate Settlement

Documented values for court inventories, accountings, and distributions to heirs.

Litigation and Bankruptcy

USPAP-compliant values for disputes, creditor matters, and bankruptcy schedules.

DIGITAL ASSETS WE APPRAISE

Qualified Crypto Appraisers Appraises All Types of Digital Assets, Including Bitcoin, Ethereum, and NFTs

  • Bitcoin

Valued from trading data in its principal market at your valuation date and time, with every pricing source named in the report.

  • Ethereum and Major Altcoins

ETH, SOL, XRP, ADA, and other widely traded tokens, priced from active markets and reconciled across exchanges.

  • Stablecoins

USDC, USDT, and other dollar-pegged tokens, including whether the token actually held its peg on the valuation date.

  • Thinly Traded and Delisted Tokens

Low-volume, delisted, or newly launched tokens, where an exchange quote alone may not reflect what a buyer would pay.

  • Staked, Locked, and Vesting Tokens

Holdings subject to staking lockups, unbonding periods, or vesting schedules, with each restriction reflected in value.

  • NFTs and Tokenized Assets

Non-fungible tokens and other tokenized assets, valued from comparable sales, collection floor data, and the asset's own traits.

HOW WE VALUE CRYPTO

Our Cryptocurrency Appraisals Price Each Holding in Its Principal Market at Your Valuation Date

Crypto trades around the clock on dozens of venues, and the same token can carry a different price on each of them in the same minute. Fair market value is the price at which property would change hands between a willing buyer and a willing seller, neither under any compulsion to buy or sell and both with reasonable knowledge of the relevant facts. A cryptocurrency appraisal shows how that standard applies to your holdings on your date.

We identify the market where each token actually trades in volume, document its price at the valuation date and time, and reconcile that figure against other venues and data sources. Where a position is large relative to daily volume, locked, or thinly traded, the report addresses whether an exchange quote overstates what a buyer would actually pay.

In IRS Chief Counsel Advice 202302012, the IRS concluded that an exchange price does not make cryptocurrency "readily valued" the way publicly traded stock is, so a donor claiming more than $5,000 needs a qualified appraisal. Our reports are built to that standard: method disclosed, sources named, and every figure traceable.

FAQ

Cryptocurrency Appraisal Questions

What does a cryptocurrency appraisal include?

A signed report stating the fair market value of each holding as of your valuation date, the markets and pricing sources used, the method applied, and any adjustment for liquidity or restrictions. It identifies the appraiser and their qualifications, the intended use, and the assumptions behind the value. Donation reports also include the details the IRS requires of a qualified appraisal.

Can you appraise crypto held in a self-custody wallet?

Yes. Hardware wallets, software wallets, and multisig setups are appraised the same way as exchange balances. We work from the public wallet addresses, transaction history, and any exchange statements you provide to document what was held on the valuation date. We never need your private keys or seed phrase.

Can you value a token that barely trades or was delisted?

Yes. When a token trades thinly, has been delisted, or had no active market on the valuation date, an exchange quote may not reflect what a buyer would actually pay. We look at available volume, market depth, and comparable transactions, and the report explains how illiquidity affects the concluded value.

Do you appraise NFTs?

Yes. We appraise NFTs and other tokenized assets using comparable sales within the collection, floor and trait data, and conditions in the wider market on the valuation date. Because NFT markets can be thin, the report discloses the sales relied on and how each one was weighed.

Can you appraise crypto as of a past date?

Yes. Most crypto appraisals are retrospective: the value as of a date of death, a gift date, a date of separation, or a filing date. Because crypto prices move by the minute, we confirm the exact date, and where it matters the time and time zone, before the work starts.
